1995 Musico
lands easy win, ready for future The jabs and combinations landed by Danny Musico on his opponent's body sounded about the cheers of the standing room only crowd at the Robert Treat Hotel in Newark Oct. 1. Musico, the
IBC World Super Middleweight champion, made quick work of Gerald Holmes
of Rahway, knocking him out in 56 seconds in his first fight since he
won the belt in February. And it was like a train that Musico, now 15-2, rolled over Holmes, now 9-2. At the opening
bell, Musico raced out of his corner and, with an intent look, danced
with Holmes. A series of jabs pushed Holmes into a corner where the champion
landed several bodv blows. "I showed I was in great shape," Musico said, adding he would have liked the fight to last longer but "I made a statement I can live up to the champion that I am." The Nutley fighter said he did not take any time off during the summer, even though two of his fights were cancelled. His quick win, he said, showed he was in great shape, was eager to fight and was not "rusty" because of the layer". The 56-second bout also was a testament to the punching power of Musico, who said the key to his quick knockout was the punishing body shots delivered to se: UV the -lock, punch. In the week since the fight. Musico has be-.a pursuing his other professional interests by going on several auditions for commercials and television shows and screen tests at Sony Studios and NBC. He also did modeling work for the premiere issue of Maxim, a new, men's magazine for which he will become the health and fitness editor. But there is no rest in sight for Musico, who plans to enter, the gvm within the week. He is "looking to do something righr away" and hopes to have two fights scheduled by the end of 1995 - one before Thanksgiving and one Dec. IS which may be televised by ESPN. << BACK to PRESS |
